100% yes. I believe in defunding the police. Reform can mean a lot of things and the only way police departments would be willing to change is if their budgets were significantly slashed. We, as a society, must change the way we keep communities safe.
Police officers shouldn’t carry guns to address non-violent offenses. And they certainly shouldn’t be suffocating, abusing, and killing Black people. However, officers will continue to do these things because they use a warrior mentality. I read a book called The End of Policing by Vitale. The link below provides access to a free copy if you are interested. It talks about the history of policing, modern abuses, and why reforms have failed.
