All white people have privilege and benefit from White Supremacy. And with all due respect, unless your family members were abolitionists, then they were not innocent in the slave trade. From the cotton on their backs to the food in their bellies, they benefited from the torture and subjugation of my ancestors.

As much as I think you are trying to understand these issues in a very honest way, you are getting caught up in semantics and not really understanding my point here — there is no such thing as an innocent white person.

America bragging about freeing slaves is like Germany bragging about freeing Jews from internment camps. Notice how you and many white people focus on the positive, refusing to see just how horrible this system was, how long lasting it was, and how it created the social hierarchy we live in today.

All white people benefit from white supremacy and that’s the problem with saying “a few.” It undermines the involvement of white people to maintain a system that oppresses all non-white people. Those who stand against restorative justice for Black and Indigenous people are white supremacists who do not value Black and Brown lives. So, it’s much more at play here than whether or not someone owned slaves. Rather, it is about whether or not ALL white people stand against white supremacy and they don’t. Using the words, “a few” and other quantifiers is just inaccurate to me.
