Historically white women have not fought for the rights of Black women.

All Black women could not vote after the passing of the 19th. Susan B Anthony campaigned against the death of the 14th amendment to give Black men to vote, so there is a long history of ignoring racism and only focused on white womens issues.

We endured forced hysterectomy and slavery and white women did not fight for us.

Until the 1960s, Black women did not have the right to file rape charged against a white man. White women did not fight for us.

Today, Black and Indigenous women are 3 times more likely to die on childbirth. That’s something that does not make it onto the feminist agenda.

I voted for Hilary because I believe that progressive white women can represent us fairly. However, history kind of explains why many Black women feel that a woman of color would be a better leader for the movement right now. The priorities of the movement have to change.
