I didn't grow up around people who used the term, but peope in the UK say it has only been used as a slur. As I wrote about in the piece, White men had a band named "spazz" and no one ever accused them of disrespecting disabled people.

Lizzo's use of the term is a learning experience. The piece I wrote is not suggesting that people continue to use the term. However, the assumption that she meant harm is what I take issue with. Thanks for reading by the way.
