I enjoyed reading your article. It touched on the fact that American history is not separate from African history. Public schools do not teach African history in a comprehensive way. Languages were taken and cultures were destroyed when as a direct result of slavery. Although genealogical research has fallen short in connecting American descendants of slavery with their African communities, I think its a worthy attempt. I want to know where that part of my family came from. My brother took a DNA test but I’m not sure if I would spend the money to do the same. Perhaps it would be unhelpful in my pursuit of understanding my history. I’m not sure.
