…a few times where a date made it clear that he preferred to pay and wouldn’t have it any other way. I can’t lie, it feels chivalrous. But only if I can tell he actually wants to.

I feel the same way. I don’t mind paying my share but when a man wants to, it’s a nice feeling. I agree on your premise. Men should not feel bad about going Dutch.
