I worked so long in customer service and never suspected a one-dollar-bill. $20s and $50s, it's normal to hit it with the little black pen, but NEVER in front of the customer.

So sorry you experienced this. Like you said, we can tell when we're being discriminated against and of course, someone will try to gaslight us. But, we know what we experienced. Thanks so much for writing this.
