I'm a scholar who unapologetically centers my writing on race. That, in no way means I don't acknowledge passing is something that can apply in other marginalized contexts, like gender, ethnicity, etc. Perhaps, by being a cis-straight woman, this wasn't the first comparison I thought of. This essay was really more geared toward an inner-group debate among Black people. As an Afro Creole, I thought my opinion may be valuable or interesting.
However, I am aware of various levels of passing. I've read stories from authors who had to code-switch to sound heterosexual to fit in. So, that's something to consider. My essays are brief and not intended to be considered as comprehensive portrayal of any given topic. That much should be by their brevity.
