It's absolutely a positive thing to allow people to define their own identity. However, from a black woman's perspective, I find it offensive when mixed people try to deny their blackness. If we were in the Jim Crow era, no one would be able to decide who they were, they would be viewed a certain way based on how they look. So now that people have the freedom to say what they are, I do appreciate when people that have balck in them acknowledge the blackness in them.
