It's funny you mention that because I also found it a sticking part. Because the nurse was saying it and these nurses were never proven to be real or honest, it is hard to believe that a man sold his house lol.

Unless they were intimate or the man had lots of money it is unlikely. However, if he was just a really kind and naive person, he could have been taken advantage of.

This whole story makes me cautious of believing it.
