Many Americans are in denial that police started as slave catchers. As you said in another article, the system is not broken, it is working the way it was designed to. I loved that you honored those fallen to brutality. This is really important because too often they are criminalized and not treated like victims even after they die.

This reminds me of this book I read this summer. It is available for free digitally:

https://www.versobooks.com/books/2426-the-end-of-policing

This is what it says on the cover: “The problem is not police training, police diversity, or police methods. The problem is the dramatic and unprecedented expansion and intensity of policing in the last forty years, a fundamental shift int he role of police in society. The problem is policing itself” (pg. 1) - Cover Page (Vitale).
