No, I would argue the issue is the assumption that solidarity for Palestinians is equal to support for Hamas is the problem.
This line of attack is strange because they haven't held an election in Gaza since 2006. Obviously, Hamas does not represent the current Palestinian population. So whenever we say Palestinian civilians and you jump to "Hamas," it's exposing your bias.
This assumption is intellectually dishonest given that the majority of people Israel has killed since October 7th have not been members of Hamas. It's just odd anytime accountability comes knocking, people are like "Hamas," "Hamas," "Hamas," even though the majority of those Israel killed are not members of any extremist groups or representatives of the government.
Is it that hard to have any empathy for those killed in Gaza, or is justifying collective punishment your preference?
