tudents…ommonplace. As students in the United States, we’re often fed lies about “benevolent slave owners.” This contortion of history is an appalling untruth that only serves to obfuscate the horrors and evil that still form an integral part of our nation’s identity.
On the plantation, white slaveowners would rape the strongest Black man. They call this method "breaking the buck" because after seeing this horrifying emasculation, many would submit and fear the slave master.
Your writing always provides a necessary clear eyed look into the connection between the American past and future.
Using sodomy as a disciplinary tool has always negatively impacted Black men. Within our community, many Black men further elements of homophobia but no one ever talks about why. Sexual assault has been used as a method for controlling Black men and acknowledging the difference between rape and consensual, healthy homosexual relationships. I hope many read your writing. Thanks for being the voice of reason.
