Thanks so much for reading. Swimming is such a big part of my life and although I didn't write it in the piece, I lost a dear friend to drowning. He was an adult but never learned how to swim. It's terrible but people rarely talk about the many Black people lost to drowning and how their inability to swim comes from a deep, systemic, ugly part of our history. I hope more little Black kids learn how to swim.
