The whole reason British people use the term Thug is because of their conquests in India. The original thugs were a specific crime syndicate in India which British troops bragged on eradicating. Regardless of the fact that they also use this term to describe white men, it is a horrible racist term used to dehumanize someone.

Donald Trump this summer called BLM protesters thugs, as well as many elite conservative politicians. Unfortunately, it has become a dog whistle to spread racist rhetoric.
