I think this political movement marked by Covid-19 and the failures of our government propelled a national discourse around the movement for Black lives and the need for total system change. There have been many dynamic organizations, including the Movement for Black Lives, Dream Defenders, the King Center, and the Shabazz Center [that] have heeded the call for structural change, innovative institution-building, and spirit-driven activism. There are many young people who have been politicized through direct action. Protests have taken place nearly every day this summer. They’re following historic figures like my father, Malcolm X.
