This part made my heart happy. As a child, I didn't want to stand to pledge allegiance. Some teachers really took issue with that but my mom said it was my choice. Thanks for writing about this issue. Too many people think it's mandatory. But, Black people should never be forced to pledge allegiance to a country which treats them like second-class citizens. We need a new anthem and laws which protect us as their equals.
