Why Can’t British People Let Go Of Their Hatred for Meghan Markle?

Their racist boos and jeers at the Platinum Jubilee show White people in the U.K. haven’t learned their lesson

At the Platinum Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II, the royal family and the United Kingdom celebrated her 70-year reign, but a cloud of racism overcast the four-day event. For starters, the British empire profited significantly from the African slave trade, and like America, their country is still grappling with its legacy of systemic racism. Last year, the Guardian published a report suggesting Buckingham Palace “banned ethnic minorities from office roles.” And the United Nations called racism in the United Kingdom “reprehensible” in a scathing report. Of course, British people are well-known for their brand of “polite racism,” involving subtle acts of discrimination. Yet, when they saw Meghan Markle pull up wearing White Dior Haute Couture to the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, they couldn’t keep their racist hatred under wraps.
