Racism makes "traveling while Black" risky business in America and throughout the global community. While anyone planning a trip should consider their destination, the art of packing a perfect suitcase, the places and events they want to explore, and their accommodations, Black people have an additional concern — the racial climate of the area they're planning to visit.

Travel advisory considered for Florida

Some members of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) are pushing for leaders to issue a travel advisory warning Black people to steer clear of Florida in response to anti-Black legislation promoted by the governor, Ron DeSantis. While a federal judge blocked the implementation of the "Stop Woke" law in Florida's colleges, some fear the legislation has created a hostile environment for Black people in the state. Like a red wine stain on a white couch, the impact of the bill is hard to ignore— many educators and librarians working with secondary, primary, and college-level students have been pressured into removing Black history from the classroom.
