White women often discuss the social hierarchy in reference to their relationship with men. They rightfully point out that systems are put into place which makes them secondary. Yet, many white men are unwilling to admit their privilege over Black people and other marginalized groups of any race. It seems contrarian to fight for equal pay while ignoring, for example, that white women already make more than Black women.
In the same way, Black men must acknowledge their privileges over Black women to be effective Civil Rights Activists. And as for myself, I have to accept and acknowledge my privilege as a heterosexual woman. If each of us acknowledges our privilege, we can be sincere, loyal allies to those less privileged than us.
