Yes, the history books were definitely designed to make us think of these colonists as heroes. Growing up, they taught us about Christopher Columbus and portrayed him as a good person. Now, that I am older I see the cruel reality.

Before colonists arrived, Sierra Leone had a unique culture unlike anything British offered.
